Niobium-Zirconium 15 (Nb-15Zr) is an alloy based on niobium with the addition of 15% zirconium, featuring a density of approximately 7.2–7.5 g/cm3.
Its compositional design centers on leveraging the solid-solution strengthening effect of zirconium within the niobium matrix while retaining niobium's low density and corrosion resistance. The addition of zirconium refines the niobium grain structure, resulting in a more uniform microstructure. The alloy is produced by mixing niobium and zirconium powders in specific proportions, forming an alloy billet through processes such as pressing and sintering, and subsequently shaping it into the desired product via methods like forging and rolling. This approach allows for precise control over alloy composition and particle size, yielding high-performance Nb-15Zr alloy.
