MATERIAL PROFILE

Ta-7.5%W Features

Ta-7.5W rod
Ta-7.5W wire

Ta-7.5%W, also known as tantalum 61, contains 7–8% tungsten. What sets this alloy apart from others is that it has a high modulus of elasticity while retaining its refractory properties.

The Ta-7.5W alloy is primarily used as a spring material and for other corrosion-resistant elastic components in equipment designed to withstand chemical corrosion. Because tantalum and its alloys have a high potential, they act as cathodes when in contact with other metals and readily absorb atomic hydrogen, which makes tantalum and its alloys brittle. Therefore, when used in the manufacture of chemical equipment, it is necessary to prevent it from acting as a cathode.
