Nb521 alloy (Nb-5W-2Mo-1Zr) is a high-temperature, high-strength alloy based on niobium (Nb) with additions of tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), and zirconium (Zr).
As a high-performance material, it exhibits excellent high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance, making it widely applicable in aerospace, the nuclear industry, and high-temperature equipment. In wire form (diameter ≥0.8 mm), it is typically used to manufacture high-temperature structural components, electrodes, or precision parts, requiring strict control over composition and processing techniques.
The typical composition of Nb521 alloy is primarily niobium (approximately 85%–92%), with the following key alloying elements:
Tungsten (W): 4.7%–5.5%; enhances high-temperature strength and creep resistance through solid-solution strengthening.
Molybdenum (Mo): 1.7%–2.5%; works synergistically with tungsten to enhance high-temperature stability and refine grain structure.
Zirconium (Zr): 0.7%–1.2%; improves oxidation resistance and inhibits grain-boundary embrittlement in high-temperature environments.
Trace Carbon (C): ≤0.05%; combines with zirconium to form carbides, increasing material hardness and wear resistance.
Control of other impurities: Oxygen (O) and nitrogen (N) contents are strictly limited (typically ≤0.02%) to prevent the formation of brittle phases.
