Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo-0.1Si (abbreviated as Ti-6242) is a near-α titanium alloy containing the α-stabilizing element Al, neutral elements Sn and Zr, the isomorphous β-stabilizing element Mo, and the eutectoid β-stabilizing element Si.
Mo enhances room-temperature and high-temperature tensile strength as well as stability, while the combined effects of Al, Sn, and Zr maintain high-temperature strength regarding long-term stress rupture and creep resistance; the addition of Si induces the precipitation of a dispersed silicide phase, which helps improve high-temperature creep strength.
This titanium alloy retains high strength at temperatures up to 540°C and is primarily used for components such as aero-engine compressor casings and aircraft skins, with a maximum long-term operating temperature of 500°C.
