Ti-6246 (Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-6Mo) is a high-strength α+β-type titanium alloy, designated UNS R56260.
This alloy improves strength, thermal stability, hardenability, and high-temperature creep resistance through the addition of Al, Sn, Zr, and Mo, exhibiting higher mechanical strength compared to Ti-6242. Ti-6246 is primarily intended for use in aircraft engines and high-temperature structural components. Relevant studies show that this alloy, when used in compressor discs and fan components for aircraft engines, can operate under sustained loads at approximately 400°C and under short-term loads at even higher temperatures.
Ti-6246 bars are typically supplied in the heat-treated and aged (STA) condition. AMS 4981 is the material specification for heat treatment and precipitation hardening of this alloy in the form of bars, wire, and forgings.
